R.I.P. Guru
Gang Starr- Step In The Arena: On January 15, 1991, Gang Starr released their second album. On this album, DJ Premier slows down the pace of the beats and tempos which fit perfectly with Guru’s monotone flow. Both the MC and the DJ showed exactly why they belong in the Hip Hop Hall Of Fame. Guru was on another level and ahead of his time with his lyrics and Premier on point with every track. I must admit that I first got into Gang Starr because of Moment Of Truth….but when I went back to this album, I thought it was classic material. Guru was an amazing MC who needed NO special guests on this album and DESTROYED every beat with ease.
Production on the album was done by DJ Premier and Guru.
A rare “No Skip” album….with tracks like “Step In The Arena”, “Execution Of A Chump”, “Just To Get A Rep”, “Precisely The Right Rhymes”, and “Who’s Gonna Take The Weight?” to name a few….my favorite track has to be:

I have 3 Gangstarr LP’s…..in this order….(outside of Full Clip)…..1.Moment of Truth….2.Daily Operation….&….of course this beauty released on same tuesday as Main Source’s….“Breaking Atoms”…..(hint! lol)…..that was a Super tuesday.At that time (Pre-ILL-Matic…..though no LP’s were givin you 18 trk.’s)….it felt like you were cop’n 2 dope joints for a $10!!!!….bill in itself was value…..&…..w/DJ Mark the 45 King….doing much of the boardwork on “No More Mr.NiceGuy”….Preem really got to lick his chops (or CHOPPED Drums….lol)….on this Opus….&….rip….to Keith E.E. aka Guru…..MILLS your so correct….he did rip-it with EASE….I Use to/still do….call it “Elegant Madness”….i’ll break-out whole “EM”,….list one day…..soon (a lil’ under weather,but i have a love for the boro-i got 7 letters in 1st name,7 in last,born the 7 month…..safe to say….i love it here!!!!)….So fav track…..so many…..I’ma have to go with (of course they were living 3 blks. from me when recorded*when Branford wasn’t lacin’ the 2 greats w/his incredible Ft.Greene joint)….so of..course “Just To Get A Rep”….especially in the EAST(ny) banged truisms i’d see daily….however….for full sonic….and Steering pleasure i have a tie….“Here Today,Gone Tommorow”…..cuz of the dope,dope…..perfectly sliced Kool Keith….“You Wack Emcee’s”….vocal snippet preem diced on the hook….makin hooks on records sound like Guru’s hypeman (it was cool just to kick it w/your boys….e.g….on some “what & who’s joints that hook from!?!?” ish)…..&….“Check the Technique”…..w/…..Craig G’s….,vocals propelling this hook…..once again GREAT POST Mills….&….honestly by far the best bk. 2 bk. Star….&….the Chain LP’s for GURU(live on)….because Daily Operation picks up exactly where Step in the…”….left off….thanks gents….this LP the hooks alone….the“cut & paste” production….stee alone on this LP is TUS…,forum worthy….think would be cool for (T)US &….Any..and All A-ALIKES to leave our mark on with some RT(raw talk)….on the pinnacle of these lp’s &….help document the historic content…..WE ALL CALL …..Timeless!!!!-
