Chino XL – Here To Save You All: On April 9, 1996, Chino XL released his debut album. This debut was filled with sick lyrics, crazy metaphors, clever punch lines and a barrage of disses to a long list of celebrities. (including Pac and B.I.G.). Critics say that this album lacked production, but he is an MC who is second to very few lyrically… so simple beats allow you to focus on the lyrics. He did not take a single break on this album lyrically. Freestyle Rhymes, Feelin Evil Again, and No Complex…. a few stories with Kreep and It’s All Bad… destroys both collab tracks with The Shabba-Doo Conspiracy and Riiiot… but the story of his life growing up has to be my FAVORITE TRACK

“What Am I” is a pretty amazing song, I love how he progresses from scared little kid to triumphantly proud young man/artist over three verses. It was also good to hear local NJ spots shouted at, as well as someone acknowledge the complexity of race relations in our diverse, crowded, grimy state.
