Let’s take it back to the late 80’s where this dope cut originated from.

The group Audio Two – consisting of Kirk “Milk Dee” Robinson and DJ Nat “Gizmo” Robinson (who are the older brothers of MC Lyte) – dropped Top Billin’ which is argubly one of the most sampled and quoted Hip Hop Songs of all time.

The beat samples the drumbreak from The Honey Drippers’ “Impeach the President”,which was rearranged in a really unusual way for this era.

Daddy-O,the main producer of this cut did this mistakenly when he hit the wrong keys on his sampler’s keyboard.Yet he still liked the out coming funkiness of the sample and sticked with it.

However the Video Mix sounds slightly different to the one that I posted above. But like most people i prefer the Original

In 1998 a remake of  Top Billin’ was released by Audio’s younger sister (Lyte) sharing the M.I.C. with Milk.It can be found on the album “Seven and Seven”.

Enjoy this vintage cut and have a good weekend.
