On Black Friday the duo Redrum, which comprises of emcees Racks and Red Eye dropped their project The Lucifer Effect. Join me as I review the album track by track. You can find the link to cop below the review.

Now I know it’s been a minute since your girl did a review so I’ll let you know how my process works. I give the album three spins, the initial listen, the shuffle play and then the drive play. Finally I’ll give my overall opinion and let you know if it’s Scy approved.

And if you’re wondering if I’m back from hiatus…. I’m not. But I’ve been waiting for this to drop for like 2000 years. I’ve seen kingdoms rise and fall, entire dynasties ripped apart, lived through several wars and was still waiting on this. But this is 2020… the year of the unexpected…so boom … album release. You know I had to.

Racks plays double duty with the production with the exception of  New Things which was produced by DJ Tray. So grab a blunt, grab an edible, fuck it grab a grilled peanut butter, banana and honey sandwich and let’s get this auditory eargasm started!

Check it out!

The Lucifer Effect by RedRum

Track 1:. Intro

Okay we’re off to a good start. An intro sampling one of my favorite movies of all time with dialogue from one of my favorite actors of all time : Al Pacino as John Milton aka Lucifer in The Devil’s Advocate

Track 2: Adjustment Bureau

This is a great opening track. The right amount of smooth with the right amount of grime. It sets the tone for the album nicely. Plus there’s tons of quotable like

“I can’t cheat death so I cheat on the weekends” and “Don’t forget the pine box and dirt naps …everybody crying dressed in all black” *in rotation

Track 3: On Fire

This beat is sic. Another banger. But I must admit this works better on the shuffle play than on the straight play through because I was hoping for an elevated level of hype. But lyrically l fuck with this! *in rotation

Track 4: Boopity Boop (Skit)

What can I say… this was a random skit. And let me tell you Evil Scy was like wait …I’ve been waiting on this to drop, was hyped for 10 tracks and they gave me a random skit… grrr level 1 activated.

Track 5: Run Come ft. Kali Ranks

This shit is so dope. This might be my favorite track so far!! Straight dirty like I love it. I’ll admit I listened to this three times before proceeding during the first listen. “In a past life I was Sun Tzu” I’m not even mad about the skit now! Although I fuck with both Racks and Red Eye as solo artists this is an example of how dope they are as a team *in heavy rotation

Track 6:  That New Shit (Skit)

And then they give me another skit. You know what I’m still vibing to the previous track. I’m good. The main reason for a skit on any project is to prepare you for a level change and it served its purpose. Only on the straight play through… not as needed on the shuffle play.

Track 7:  New Things ft. HEIST-N-FLOW  (Prod by DJ Tray)

I think it was a nice switch up to feature another producer alongside a feature. It gives the track a different vibe while still being cohesive with the project. Plus I fuck with HEIST-N-FLOW as well! Dope collab! Ultimate grimyness. This is another favorite! *in heavy rotation

Track 8:  Cold Blooded ft. Christopher Kane

This was actually unexpected. You know how I feel about R&B type hooks (not really a fan) but this is dope. This song is deceptive because with a hook like this you expect it to be sentimental or some shit…but as the song says it’s Cold Blooded! I fuck with this!

Track 9:Palo Mayombe

First of all I love the sample on this. From jump this goes hard! “This ain’t a movie everybody dies” also with another D.A. outro This another one *in heavy rotation

Track 10:. Devil Lurks

This is the perfect closing song. It has a satisfying vibe you like to feel with the closing of an album. It’s not my favorite track but it closes the project nicely.

Bonus Track: Carnival

Oh shit they hit us with the Billy Mays … but wait there’s more!! What a dope bonus track! I hope this is a preview of what’s to come … and let’s hope they don’t wait as long to drop more heat l!!

The verdict:

Now one thing I love about this Orlando based duo is how nicely they flow off one another.

I know I complained about the wait but they have been blessing us with freestyle tracks on the regular…those alone can be coined as another project if I’m keeping it 100. But non

Two main things that can kill an otherwise dope track for me is a wack beat and/or an average voice. Thankfully these guys have a great ear for beat selection (you’ll hear as we continue through the project) and both of the voices are ill. What I mean by that is you can listen to this entire album without getting annoyed by their flow. Even some dope well known emcees can sound redundant as a project plays through. But these two are entertaining as fuck and they can switch up their flow so it doesn’t. I was gonna take points off for the skits but the project is dope enough that I can overlook that. Plus they hit us with the ill bonus track.

This album was dope. I fuck with pretty much every track on here… yes even the one with the R&B type hook. This is definitely Scy approved. Go cop this shit now!

Overall: A+

As always please support dope artists and their music!
