Legendary is the perfect title for this short film. If you are fortunate enough to have ever seen The Roots perform, you know exactly what I’m talking about. I have seen The Roots more times than I can remember and they destroy every performance. I don’t mean one concert every few months. These guys rock on a regular basis and still hold down “house band” duties on late night. Their lyrics, beats, and stage presence are second to none.
I remember this one concert in Radio City Music Hall. Everyone was looking at the stage waiting for the curtain to open and all you hear is this commotion in the back of the room. It was Black Thought leading the group in while he was rhyming on a megaphone. He was on some Jimmy Hart shit that tonight. Questlove was rocking the drums and the rest of the group were giving high fives to the audience. I feel that that was one of the greatest concert intros ever. They came in through the same entrance as the people. They greeted fans on the way in. They are for the people. That is LEGENDARY.

Legendary is having a whole city behind you. (Philadelphia)

Legendary is rockin’ with Big Punisher.

Legendary is sharing the stage with Nas and Jay-Z.

Legendary is dropping a classic album no matter what label you’re on.

Legendary is staying together as a group after years of touring around the world.

This brings me to my final point. I may be bias because I have a lot of love for the City Of Philadelphia (GO EAGLES!) but I feel that “How I Got Over” should have won album of the year at the Grammys. I’m not taking anything away from Eminem but for The Roots to make such a masterpiece while taking on other responsibilities (touring/Jimmy Fallon) is pretty remarkable. I feel like The Roots do not get the credit they deserve. That being said….support these dudes because they breathe, eat, and shit Hip Hop! Bless.
