These cats were representing Staten Island way before the Wu! This joint was in heavy rotation on Video Music Box back in the early 90’s. Major props to the UMC’s for bringing us this classic!
AMAZING!!!!….Real happy you DUG this up & out. These are the Records that i try to stay pointing-out.Their is nothing SOFT.*pauz* OR HARD about this record. It dropped at a time Wild Pitch & owner Stu Fine (whom along with his wife *reminder remember her name* for personal reasons….lol.everything connects.) Had the early ’90’s on lock.Starting with LP’s like Lord Finesse’s.“FunkyTechnician” (a RECORD SO UNDERRATED.Now) think about this record in context i’ma b-down.With Lord Finesse obviously handling mic duties as the real first PUNCHLINE emcee. For most that’d be enough.nah,THEN we are on 2 trk.’s introduced to this dude Andre Barnes.OR Andre the Giant. Now most know as simply,AG.OK,that’s some incredible “HEAVY BX. EXPERIENCE” as my peop’s the P.BROS.’d say.
On this same Debut LP.NOONE I’VE never heard anyone point out.On this one LP.DITC was born.I can memorize liner notes.DITC as an entity never was mentioned.Could have been that the premier producer. On LP.Was this dude Chris Martin aka DJ mf’n Premier. His first production on any lp w/ his now signature style.Up to.& Before then e.g-“No more,Mr. nice guy” Gangstarr’s debut cuts like GUSTO & POSITIVITY were produced by DJ Mark The 45 King.Premier did the legendary “DJPremier in Deep Concentration ” and one other track on their WildPitch debut. Before breaking to Chrysalis Records.Another mind-blower on this LP is with Preem in the house.Guess who (as he did on all his own early gems *EricB’s only contribution that’s a story for like don diva mag.*) Yes *see/hear liner notes or easier end of LF & AG’s tour de force of rhyme schooling The DJPremier produced “BK. to BK. Rhyming”* RAKIM did all cuts & scratches for a track preem produced.FACT.Baffling.Still fact. With the exception of title trk. ,Strictly For The Ladies,& 2 others. The R,…did rest. Also keep in mind record is billed LORD FINESSE & DJ MIKE SMOOTH.Clearly a case of someone putin’ their boy on who use to dj at LF’s performances (a few during the missed NMS yrs. i was lucky nuff to catch.Even in that forum.LF, dropped the mic & back in ’87 rocked the wheels. As he does as his primary element now.)….I have PLENTY MORE ON THIS THAT’ll hopefully “keep ya’ eager ta’ listen” (pun intended) as i make it all way back to UMC’s.The BlueCheese b-side.Staten Island’s first hiphop act (hasn’t been mentioned,on any forum dating back to WU’s jump-off.)….So if you really enjoy these X-TRA X-TRA’s i keep exclusive to T7B & MWIV,and SQ.RADIO PG. then meet me back here in a few.In mean & inbetween time….respect STROY.Any ?’s or comment’s on mine thus far.I’m open…..tbc w/ revelations.
