Tupac Amaru Shakur – June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996
On this day, 15 years ago, the Hip hop community lost a great soul. Say what you will about the late Tupac Shakur but his contribution to Hip Hop is immeasurable. People tend to remember the arrogant, loud mouth, and uncontrollable Tupac. Let us not forget the MC who gave us classics such as “Dear Mama”, “Brenda’s Got A Baby”, and “Keep Ya Head Up”. I like to think of Tupac as a misguided genius. A man who got “caught up” in the whole east coast/west coast nonsense. Let us not forget that Tupac was born in New York City. Let’s remember him as an MC who brought us great music and not as a “Thug“. RIP Tupac.
