I was in a clothing store in Montreal QC 2 years ago and while shopping I was listening to the background music. The M.C. that was spittin’ was just going crazy on the track! I went up to the person at the counter and he told me that it was a Canadian M.C. named Eternia. I remember asking the dude if he had a copy of the cd they were playing but they didn’t. When I got back to Jersey I found some material and was blown away by the wordplay! Since then I’d have to say that “My favorite rapper wears a skirt!” It’s funny because the way she spits does not match her appearance. I envisioned a woman who looked like Latrell Sprewell with a chin strap. When I first saw what she looked like I couldn’t believe it! It’s like a ladybug transforming into pitbull when she picks the mic up. A very pretty women! Anyway here it is! Enjoy.

Stroydnaire: What/Who inspired you to be an MC?

Eternia: I never really thought about it consciously like that. I started rappin’ when I was too young to know what it meant (laughs). By the time I was old enough to decide I wanted to do it as a career (15) I just couldn’t picture doing anything else…. But my brother was the reason I started listening to Hip Hop at around 8-yrs of age. And Latifah, Salt-n-Pepa, ATCQ, Jeru, Nas, whole gang’a artists at the time inspired me to continue. Too many to list.

Do you feel that female MC’s get the shine/respect they deserve?
(This is the only time I will use the term female M.C., She can destroy most “Male M.C’s” out there so I will refer to her as an M.C.)

That’s a tough question. I think that ‘female’ MC’s don’t often have a machine behind them, investors, a team, etc… and when they do have that, w/ good music, then YES they get shine. But it’s rare that you see a corporation put their dollars behind a female emcee. We’re viewed as a risk. It’s hard to get ‘shine’ without a huge team behind you, let alone in an oversaturated music industry. Anybody who’s ever marketed any brand or product knows that. It’s not as simple as just having good music. That doesn’t cut it these days. That being said – I do think that Hip Hop heads can often be more critical of female MC’s then their male counterparts, for no good reason. Misogyny is still rampant. Peep any online board for proof.

Okay, Here we go with the Quick 5.

Question 1.

What hip hop album do you remember listening to and just saying, “Damn, this is my shit!!!”

ORGANIZED KONFUSION: Stress: The Extinction Agenda
ATCQ: Low End Theory
NAS: Illmatic
THE ALKAHOLIKS: Coast II Coast
QUEEN LATIFAH: Black Reign
JERU the DAMAJA: The Sun Rises in the East

I could go on… that’s just a random selection.

Question 2

If you could choose any place in the world to hold a concert. Where would you do it and why?

TORONTO. When we get hype – there is no other crowd like it. We are louder than any other hip hop crowd in the world , that I’ve witnessed, when we’re hype. We slap our hands on any table, wall, pipe in the ceiling, u name it. We thunder. We make NOISE. It’s …. An experience unlike any other hip hop concert. But the vibe has to be PERFECT for that to happen. I’ve witnessed it many times though 😀

Question 3

In your opinion, what was the best year in hip hop?

1993. or 1994 lol. Although I don’t live in the past, Im not one of those angry hip hop purists. I think music evolves like people do. I’m looking forward to seeing where Hip Hop goes, as we grow.

Question 4

If you could make your own super group(4 mc’s 1 producer/dj) Who would be in it?

Wow tough q! Lawdamercy.
Producer: Exile or Black Milk
Emcees: Elzhi. Pharoahe. Blu…. And me? Ha. I think I would have to step my game up… but I think I could rise to the challenge 😀

Question 5

SIA – Some People have Real Problems
Melanie Fiona – The Bridge
Zaki Ibrahim
14KT – Nowalataz
Blu & Exile – below the heavens
