Mrs. Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancy has confirmed there is a project of brand new, unreleased material from her son, legendary producer J. Dilla, that is slated to drop this year.
The new project, The Rebirth of Detroit, is being prepared for release through J. Dilla’s estate, which controls the rights to the late producer’s music.
Only Detroit artists who actually worked with J. Dilla are being featured on the new project, according to Mrs. Yancy.
“This will bring together artists that have drifted away from one another and haven’t been able to work with each other lately,” Mrs Yancy continued. “It’s a healing process for the city…for individuals its going to bring back the love passion and the passion for the music and for what Hip-Hop has to offer…Hip-Hop is a culture, it’s not a passing fancy. It’s thriving and growing, in a wonderful way. It has a positive message and learning experience for all ages.” – Mrs. Yancy
