Ev takes some time out from recording the new Dilated album to talk vinyl. His collection is pretty extensive and it’s surprising to me that people are still sleeping on him as a producer. In my opinion I think he can hang with some of the best of them. When you hang around ALC and DJ Babu as much as he does, how can you not expect a little of that heat to rub off? We are in an era that allows for emcees to actually be able to make the beats to their liking. Ever since the early years, hip hop’s heavy hitters in the double threat category have always reigned supreme. From Diamond D to Madlib to Moka Only, the music just keeps getting better as the years pass. Do the knowledge, study the tools and clues they leave open on their releases to your advantage. After all, hip hop is about stealing something that isn’t yours, putting a spin on it and making it your own.
